Onlive scores Big Partnership with Google
Following up on the last article on an online cloud gaming article, OnLive, Inc., the pioneer of instant-play video games and instant-action cloud computing, announced on January 11th that Google will be integrating the revolutionary OnLive cloud gaming service as a standard feature of the Google TV platform on all devices from all manufacturers.
Features on Google TV
OnLive brings to Google TV users instant on-demand game-play from a rapidly growing library of the latest high-performance console-class titles, as well exclusive social features such as worldwide massive spectating and Brag Clip videos with full group voice and text chat.
The OnLive Viewer, enabling OnLive social features, is available immediately on all Google TV devices currently in the market and is compatible with standard Google TV remote controls as well as the OnLive Wireless Controller and standard USB game controllers.
Onlive and Google vs. Microsoft
As well as OnLive gameplay, all current and future Google TV devices, including TVs, Blu-ray players and Media Streamers, will make Google TV the first integrated TV platform with console-class gameplay capability, and bringing OnLive capability to most major TV manufacturers. This puts it directly in the playing field of Microsoft’s Xbox 360, which has positioned itself to be not just a gaming console but also adding video streaming from popular sites like Netflix.
This is a major development for OnLive. It places it well beyond other online game services such as GaiKai and as a developer’s dream platform (being hack-free), it brings viable competition to the game console world.
Once again, take a look at our earlier piece on OnLive. Be aware, that it is still a private company. Onlive, while not yet public, has stepped up to a new level thanks to Google, and it wouldn’t be surprising if an oncoming IPO makes it’s way onto a future announcement
